The
boatman's house
Szalma's
farm was built in 1952 to replace the old farm. It has got rammed
earth walls and its architecture does not follow the traditional
three-part model of peasant houses in the area. Its rarities are the
traditional cooking range and oven. The farm locally known as Paca's
farm had been serving as a boatman-house until the mid 1970s.
The Szalma family, that is aunt Pore, had been
transporting
farmers to the Ludas church, to the market, to fairs, and the children
to school at the other side of the Lake for more than forty years. A
statue of St. John of Nepomuk, the protector saint of
fishermen and other people working on water, used to stand in the yard
of Paca’s farm. Currently it can be seen at the Bridge of Nosa.
In old photographs we can see a pigsty, a henhouse, a stable and a
barn. These have been restored along with the farm. Especially
interesting is the round pigsty. The part of the lake called Sárgapart
and the reedbeds near the farm used to be popular fishing spots. Lots
of boats were tied and kept at this steep coast. The Lake was not as
muddy as it is today and elderly locals still remember the legendary
fish abundance.
Today
the farm is a registered peasant farm suited to promote village
tourism at Lake Ludas.
